Jersey’s Lack of Freedom of information

I am very strong believer of freedom of speech and choice.
I read an article that people might find of interest at
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1579981/Why-documents-in-Jersey-remain-secret.html

Below is a copy of the email I sent to the journalist who wrote the article that is self explanatory.

Dear Gordon Rayner, gordon.rayner@telegraph.co.uk

I read the article ‘Why documents in Jersey remain
secret’ in the newspaper this morning and feel compelled to furnish you with my personal views on Freedom of information or rather the lack there of in Jersey.

I declare am standing for senator in the upcoming 2011 elections on the 19th of October. My Manifesto and other
information can be read on-line at http://jerseyrights.com

The freedom of information laws in Jersey should not be in my opinion cherry picked and they should be fit for purpose.

I am very much in favour of freedom of information and it is 100% wrong that there is no provision under the Code for people to apply for information held by the police, hospitals, or any other public service.
Information should not be conveniently limited government committee agendas and minutes should be disclosed, any documents supporting an agenda item should also to begiven out and files or documents should to be made public.

It is fair and proper that the scope of freedom of information should to be widened and if I was lucky enough to be elected I would personally back proposals for this.

It might be an idea for you to ask the other candidates standing for
election for their views on this subject, to be fair to all, and I feel it would make interesting reading not just for those who can vote in Jersey but for the public in general.

An interesting snippet for you; my husbands name is Brian Corby and his namesake/historic relative was the person who shot Harold threw the eye in 1066.

Regards
Linda Corby

I included the email addresses for the candidates standing for senator with this email to be fair to all standing.

Here are their
emails should you require
them; pmbailhache@gmail.com,

You might like to ask this question to anyone standing for election full stop or send your comments/letters to the Telegraph as I fear that such might not be published in the island for obvious reasons?
Cover ups are inevitable in my opinion until real freedom of information is available to all.

Deputy Montford Tadier’s blog to see how the Jersey Local media is
covering the current 2011 elections, it is an eye opener! http://mtadier.blogspot.com/2011/09/jerseys-mainstream-media-show-their.html

  1. I do love the manner in which you have presented this problem plus it does indeed provide me a lot of fodder for consideration. However, because of what precisely I have witnessed, I simply hope when the actual responses pile on that folks continue to be on point and not start on a soap box regarding some other news du jour. Still, thank you for this excellent piece and while I do not necessarily agree with it in totality, I regard your perspective.

  10. SOPA has already started and next we have ACTA which will be extremely restrictive in Europe predominantly. If you are using YouTube, Myspace or have previously shared a mp3 clip you will soon be a lawbreaker.

  18. With havin so much content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement? My website has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my permission. Do you know any solutions to help reduce content from being ripped off? I’d definitely appreciate it.
